 Damn.... me....
 Sorry, this bug is invalid.
 I set profile via eselect, the original repo-conf contained a single
 "/etc/make.profile". I then reaplaced it with what make.profile pointed
 to, when I first hit this USERLAND-issue - without thinking :( I maintain
 all my repos - including "gentoo" in /var/paludis/repositories. Now I
 simply replaced "profiles" by the actually correct one - and issue seems
 to be solved.
 Phew!

 (eselect profile works on my own machine, as I set PORTDIR in make.conf)
