Copy the exheres in question to a local repository, modify it and
you're done. Merge in version bumps, etc.
Even I do that for one or two packages.

And Paludis' hooks allow you to, e. g. add your own patches:

In general, we strive to provide sensible defaults and options that
make sense.

The IPv6 option is completely anachronistic these days - the IPv4
address space is exhausted, IPv6 connectivity can be acquired without
cost even if your provider doesn't cooperate and we don't have IPv4
options either.
