| It tries to update java:
| * virtual/jre :1.6 [S 1.6.0]
|     Reasons: app-office/openoffice-2.4.0:0::installed,
| dev-db/hsqldb-1.8.0.9-r1:0::installed, 37 more
|
| While I have the following in /etc/paludis/package_mask.conf:
|> virtual/jvm-1.5.0
|> virtual/jdk-1.5.0
I would imagine a dep tasks precedence over your mask. If it doesn't it
will probably warn or die. On a second look though you don't have jre
masked. jdk, jvm, but not jre. Besides, why would you want to mask
another packages deps?

| emerge --update --deep --newuse --pretend --verbose world comes out clean.
Oddities such as this should be expected. Paludis tries harder.

| Hello,
|
| First attempt for paludis...
|
| For some strange reason it tries to:
| * sys-apps/hotplug [N 20040923-r2]
|     Reasons: *net-wireless/ipw2200-firmware-3.0:0::installed
| "USB and PCI hotplug scripts"
|     43.75 kBytes to download
|
| But ipw2200-firmware has:
| RDEPEND="|| ( >=sys-fs/udev-096 >=sys-apps/hotplug-20040923 )"
|
| And I do have udev installed.
|
| Another issue...

|
| Any clue?
|
| Thanks!
| Alon.
